On Loch Torridon, in the West Highlands of Scotland stands the log home of musician and photographer Steve Carter. "The plot, set in a Caledonian pine forest has about 200 yards of coastline with a stone jetty onto the loch and views to die for", describes Steve in his building blog.

Steve wanted an individual house that would last for a lifetime, so he was convinced to choose Nordic pine. "The 'polar' pine wood grown in Lapland is NOTHING like what you might find for sale in B&Q, much slower growing, very dense and hard wearing", he describes.
